While A Letter From Phoenix Farm was my first book, Water Music was my first real collaboration with my mother and, I feel, my first real book. When I was studying photography at Greenfield Community College and Western State College of Colorado I was fascinated by water and how it reacted with light. I did several related projects at both schools and these led to the creation of Water Music. After the concept was sold to Boyds Mills Press, I traveled to California and home to Massachusetts where large portions of the book were shot. My favorite spread in the book is Washed Away: A Double Haiku. I shot this sequence on the Taylor River near my home in Crested Butte, Colorado, and I love the feeling of movement.
